Bryan Lake is the 2012 PKRA World Tour Racing Champion!

 HB-Race-Champ

Lake takes 1St place on the PKRA World Tour Racing Circuit.  From Mexico to Germany, with podium finishes at nearly every stop, Bryan Lake (AKA Bernie) weathered the dramatic Olympic whirlwind, and came out as the 2012 PKRA World Tour Racing Champion.

Born and raised in San Diego, CA Bryan Lake started racing on the water at a young age.  With a solid background racing sailboats, he was recruited by the University of Hawaii’s sailing program.  He says “It was a good move for me!  There was big waves, good wind and we had a kick ass sailing team.  We ripped up the college circuit and won the nationals.”

As fate would have it his UH sailing coaches were kiting and gave him a shot at it one day.  He was instantly hooked.  In 2004 he hit the Gorge games coming in 3rd and graced the cover of Kiteboarding Magazine in 2006.  Highly competitive in nature the laid back surf scene wasn’t doing it for him.  He had the need for speed, and pushing the limits of high performance kite racing was right up his alley.

Bryan went back to his roots in San Diego to race kites, we recently saw him up against the America’s Cup 45’s while they were training.  Bryan’s latest focus is sailing in light winds while assisting Cabrinha’s kite designer Pat Goodman in the development of the latest race gear.  The goal of launching in light wind (as little as 5 knots) to be the first on the water with the fastest kite on the market is now in his grasp.  Next up, Winning the World Championship.
