How did you get into kiteboarding?

I got into kiteboarding because of a friend and was completely hooked from the first moment I flew the kite. I lived 17 kilometers from the beach so every windy day after school I would jump on my bike and kite until after sunset. I started working in a kiteshop and on windy days I would always get a break to go for a session. During the summer I worked as much as possible so I could escape the cold Dutch winter and go to Brazil. After my first winter in Brazil I started competing in the European Championships and won the European title during my first year on tour. After another year of competing on the Kite Tour Europe I started to compete in the Freestyle world championships. Since two years my main focus has been park riding and competing in the Kite Park League.

What motivated you to become a professional athlete?

My goal was always to improve as fast as possible and I also really like to compete, so the road to becoming a professional kiteboarder mainly happened because of those two reasons. Becoming a pro kiteboarder was definitely a dream since the beginning and I couldn’t be more happy to do what I love the most and share this with as many people as possible. 

What is #LiveFreeRideFree for you?

#LiveFreeRideFree for me represents the lifestyle that we live. Freedom is the ultimate feeling that kiteboarding gives us and probably one of the main reasons why I’m so addicted to it. Not only on the water, but also of the water we live this lifestyle of freedom and following the wind. I love the fact that whether you are a professional kiteboarder or you just made it to the beach after a long day at the office, we share the same passion and are all chasing this same feeling that we get during that perfect session!
